The most successful trip for magic in America’s Got Talent history has come to an end. Michael Grasso was sent home despite a performance that drew raves from judges and audience alike.

Much more on this during our final Magic Stars AGT podcast with Nathan Burton tomorrow.

Until then, congrats to Grasso, Murray, Sperry and Restivo as well as everyone else who made this such a great year for magic on television

Magic Magazine August

Yay: Jamie D Grant will be in this issue:

Wonder In A BottleWonder in a Bottle
Jamie Grant, a 36-year-old magician who lives in Vancouver, BC, has started a unique project: the Send Wonder campaign. He has created 100 custom-designed decks with the words "Never Give Up" printed on one side. One edge of the card box reads: "Nothing is Impossible." The decks are put into the bottles using his secret process, then left in a public area. Eventually, someone discovers the bottle and gets to keep it.

From Magic Newswire: USPC is returning to print gaffed cards

GAFFED CARDS ARE BACK FROM USPC

One of the under reported stories that we came across while at the SAM was the release of the new Bicycle 809 Mandolin Back playing cards that were designed with magicians in mind by Paul Harris & Richard Turner. Murphy's will be the exclusive wholesaler for the magic community.

Some of the features that Richard Turner specifically pointed out when he showed me the deck:

• Same finish as the 808's
• Die Cut face down instead of face-up
• The old style box design is back
• Because this is not the famous 808 design, all gaffs will be made available and allowed by USPC

Magic on TV

Daytime Emmy Awards
Sunday, June 27, 9 ET/PT, CBS
The Daytime Emmy Awards will once again honor the soap-opera stars and talk-show hosts who round out the daylight listings in your TV Guide. This year, however, the awards will be presented from the stage of the Las Vegas Hilton, where performers from up and down the Strip have been called in to add sizzle to the two-hour broadcast. Among them, David Copperfield will travel from the MGM Grand's Hollywood Theatre to magically produce host Regis Philbin at the top of the show. Immediately following his spot, David, a twenty-time Emmy award-winner himself, will head back down Las Vegas Boulevard to complete two performances of his show, An Intimate Evening of Grand Illusion. Copperfield's role in theDaytime Emmy's is similar to his appearance on theAcademy of Country Music Awards in 2009, where he used his signature Elevator Illusion to produce music sensation Taylor Swift. We understand that David will not be reprising the Elevator, so expect to see another Copperfield illusion in primetime Sunday night.

What is Celebrate Life with HOPE?

  • The largest annual event of its type in the nation
  • A place where survivors and their families get together with hospital staff
  • An event where survivors meet community and national support agencies that can help them
  • A place for HOPE Program donors to meet cancer survivors

In addition to enjoying fun and food, the event emphasizes health promotion and wellness through attention to nutrition, self-care, and mind-body fitness. Held on the New York City backlot of Paramount Pictures, we are joined by celebrities and entertainers who make the day so absolutely special. Celebrate Life with HOPE emphasizes survivorship and life-long wellness as an on-going process that involves physical health and learning to maximize quality of life.

With over 2,400 participants last year, we are expecting an even larger turnout this year. Sponsored by the HOPE Program in the Childrens Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases, this wonderful event is free to our children and families. The event is made possible by the philanthropic support of outstanding individuals, organizations, and businesses.
